EDUCATION & SKILLS
A defining focus of Alight's development work in Pakistan has been improving access to education for out-of-school children, particularly in underserved and hard-to-reach communities.
We work across the education continuum – from foundational learning to higher education and market-relevant skills – linking education with employment and entrepreneurship pathways that enable individuals to move from vulnerability to resilience and long-term economic independence.
Educate A Child (EAC) Project
Together with Education Above All (EAA) and the Government of Pakistan, Alight brought 1.1 million out-of-school children into classrooms.
GAMZAN Project
In Gilgit-Baltistan, we delivered integrated non-formal education and skill development to 10,000 children and youth, primarily focusing on girls. We also launched a Mobile Library, reaching the most remote corners of Gilgit Baltistan.
Qatar Scholarship for Afghans (EAA & Alight Project)
In partnership with Education Above All and Coursera, Alight is supporting Afghan girls aged 16+ with access to 120,050 university-accredited online courses, alongside full scholarships for higher education at partner universities globally.
TECH-HER Forward
Stewart and Alight have partnered to launch "Tech-Her Forward", an initiative equipping young women with in-demand digital and IT skills. The project aims to bridge Pakistan's gender digital divide while creating pathways to employment, freelancing and economic empowerment for women in technology.
Zaha – A School in a Climate Resilient Infrastructure
Alight, in partnership with Education Above All (EAA), has established Pakistan's first climate-resilient school on the outskirts of Islamabad. Designed by the late Zaha Hadid, the low-cost, eco-friendly structure is movable and flood-safe, providing a sustainable solution for educating out-of-school children.
PEF-QAT Project
Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) and Alight are collaborating to implement the Quality Assurance Tests (QAT) for Academic Year 2025–2026 across 17,938 schools throughout Punjab.
Punjab Education Initiatives Management Authority (PEIMA) Project
Alight partnered with the Punjab Education Initiatives Management Authority (PEIMA) to implement Quality Assurance Tests (QAT) across 4,142 government schools in Punjab. The initiative assessed learning outcomes of 67,131 students from Grades 3-6 and contributed to strengthening evidence-based monitoring and improvement of education quality across the province.
HEALTH & NUTRITION
Since 2002, Alight has partnered with UN agencies, IMANA, Doctors Worldwide, and the Government of Pakistan to strengthen healthcare delivery across the country. Through these efforts, we have reached over 5.2 million people, trained 3,000 healthcare workers, and established or refurbished 42 health facilities nationwide. Nutrition has remained a key focus, with programs addressing maternal and child malnutrition reaching over 177,000 beneficiaries.
IMANA Nutrition Project
Following the 2022 floods in Sindh, Alight and IMANA launched a Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) project – Safe Mother and Safe Child – to address child malnutrition through nutrition education, screening, and supplementation. The initiative improved maternal knowledge and child health outcomes, leading to its expansion across flood-affected communities in upper Sindh.
MARI Petroleum – Sehat Ghar Project
This project is designed to strengthen healthcare delivery services and improve the quality of life of people living in Balochistan.
Emergency Response
As natural and man-made disasters grow more frequent, Alight stands at the frontlines of emergency response — delivering lifesaving support to people affected by floods, earthquakes, and other crises.
We were among the first responders to the 2005 earthquake, Cyclone Yemyin in 2007, the 2010–2011 floods, the 2022 floods, and most recently, the 2025 floods in KPK and Punjab.
Floods 2022 Response
Alight reached 91,000 people across 21 districts with shelter, food, and non-food items, primary healthcare, clean water, and education.
Floods 2025 Response
In response to the 2025 floods, Alight, on behalf of IMANA, provided emergency healthcare in selected areas of KPK and Punjab, reaching over 2,800+ people through mobile clinics, medical camps, and household visits.
Growth & Innovation
Innovation is at the core of our work. During COVID-19, we adapted quickly by launching radio-based learning and a mobile library van for remote communities in Gilgit-Baltistan. Building on this experience, we continue to develop innovative solutions to address emerging challenges and create sustainable impact.

Radio Program
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Alight developed a 30-day radio education program for Grades 1–5, reaching 200,000 children in remote areas. It was later adopted by the Ministry of Federal Education and broadcast nationwide.
Mobile Library
We also launched our very own School on Wheels, known as the Mobile Library Van, which gives access to education to every kid, not letting commute be a barrier.
MUALLIM ACADEMY
In collaboration with the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Alight established Pakistan's first non-formal education training portal for teachers, known as "Muallim Academy", which has enabled more than 16,135 teachers to complete university-accredited professional development.
Following Refugees on their Journey
For decades, Pakistan has hosted some of the world's largest refugee populations and supporting them has long been central to Alight's humanitarian mission. Our programs go beyond addressing immediate needs — we see displaced people not only for what they have lost, but for the potential they hold to rebuild and shape their futures.
CFLI – Government of Canada Project
Since early 2023, Alight has supported Afghan families in Pakistan on their path to asylum. What began with limited resources soon gained backing from the Government of Canada and other private donors. Designed and delivered with the direct involvement of the families, the project provided over 100 households with safe housing, education, psychosocial care, medical support, IT and vocational training, and recreational activities for children and women. Within six months, more than 80% of the families successfully transitioned to new lives in countries including Brazil, Spain, Australia, the UK, and the US.
